| It's Time to Submit Your GOLDEN Acorn Nominations Deadline Friday, 11th May The Golden Acorn Award honors individuals who have given exemplary volunteer service to children and youth in our school’s community. The Golden Acorn Award is a special award given for continued and dedicated service. This is an excellent way to honor PTA members - parents as well as staff members - for their contribution to this association. The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes individuals who go beyond the normal expectations of their jobs to make the learning environment fun, beneficial, and challenging. An outstanding educator could be a teacher, assistant, custodian, bus driver, administrator or community member. The Outstanding Advocate Award is given to individuals for continued and dedicated service to ALL children and a demonstrated commitment to helping create strong policies relating to the health, welfare, safety, and education of children and youth. An outstanding advocate could be a PTA grassroots advocate, teacher, assistant, administrator or community member. You may nominate more than one person, and you may make nominations for more than one category. Click the link for the form. Copies are available in the school office. Please fill out your form by Friday, May 11 and return it to the Hollywood Hill PTA mailbox in the school office. Message from our PTA President: As many of you know, our PTA decided several years ago to have an auction or similar big fundraising event every ther year. This school year was to be an auction year. However, due to a number of factors, the board has decided to postpone our auction until Fall of 2012.
In making this decision, we considered the fact that: we have a lot of big changes at the school this year with a new principal and new staff to settle in; we prefer a fall date to a spring date if at all possible; procurement of auction items is a lengthy process which has not yet begun; we want a dynamic auction committee with ample time to do their work; and finally, we need the Hollywood Hill Elementary community to identify how the PTA should spend the funds generated.
We have a wonderful chair in Nanette Bamesberger, and the whole board will be “on board” (no pun intended) to support her throughout this school year as she leads our auction committee to develop an outstanding auction plan. If you would like to join the auction committee, please contact me or Nanette to volunteer.
